Hello, my dear reader. This week’s subject is going to be a lot lighter than last weeks… We’re going to talk about thrifting!! It’s one of my favorite past time hobbies; not only is it pleasing to find a unique treasure, but also it saves the planet.
Do you know how much water and energy goes into making a shirt? A LOT!! Just one shirt uses up to 2,700 liters of water (that’s right! I used liters, my sweet American friends hahaha!). That much water would last a looong time as drinking water… crazy, right? And the same shirt requires about 10-12 kWh of energy. Imagine what else it could be used for… Now, I don’t think anyone’s perfect nor should they feel any type of way about buying a t-shirt. But I do hope people consider where they get their clothes from. I used to think that what I do won’t matter because one person can’t change the world, but what if everyone thought the same way? What if everyone thought their change of habits won’t affect the world? No one would even try. That’s not a world changer’s attitude. We need more people that take the first steps, not only in this topic but in anything. Whatever you think needs a change, be the change. Others will follow.
But I think taking a small step goes a long way. Even if you just changed small things, IT MATTERS!! Plus like I said it’s so fun to find cool furniture and clothes that is unique and vintage. (There’s also stores that make recycled clothes or does clothes in a more sustainable way, and they actually look pretty cool. So if you’re not a thrifter but don’t want to buy your clothes from the mall, that is always an option). But here below is some of my favorite thrift stores and finds!
- Dorcas Ministries; This one is in Cary, NC. I usually go there for cool decor or beads for jewelry. The store is quite big and full of antique treasures, so it takes me about 2h till I’m ready to leave.
- Guardian Angel; I usually go to the one in Fuquay-Varina, NC, because it’s the nearest to me. They have pretty cute decor. And the clothes there are really cheap and I’ve made amazing finds.
- Cause for Paws; Okay.. To this one I only really go because of the cats. So, they normally have 3-5 rescued cats in the shop, a bit in the back so the cats won’t be stressed. But you can actually adopt them if you wanted. And they let you hold them (if the cats are in the mood). I’ve also found unique things from their thrift store too, like picture frames and such.
- Uptown Cheapskate; There’s one in Apex and one in Raleigh that I normally go to. I love this store and their clothes are quite hip sometimes. The best thing about this place is, you can bring your own clothes in and they give you store credit for it. So when you’ve found new things and you’re checking out, they use that store credit, and I’ve gotten up to $30 off at best. I think it’s really cool.
- Goodwill Industries; I usually drop my donations here, which I’m sure most of us do. And it’s normally a hit or miss with my visit. Some days I can’t find anything, other times I find almost brand new looking clothes and kitchenware.

But yea those are my most used thrift stores and my favorite finds. I’m still kind of new to thrifting in this country, so if you know of any cool places PLEASE LET ME KNOW! 🙂 Other than that, I hope your week is going well and if you do happen to be thrifting, I hope you find the most beautiful treasures! Also if you find my blog interesting or somewhat cool, please subscribe and like it. And please do follow my social media. But for now, Ella’s out. PEACE!<3
