Have you met my friend, Tea Tree Oil?

I’m sure most of us already know about tea tree oil. It is known to be quite strong and powerful in many ways. And I feel like nowadays it’s found in almost every hair care product and some skincare products. And it is no surprise! This power oil, originally used by the Aboriginal people of Australia, can help your cough but also fight against skin infections… and you could even make a natural deodorant out of it.. WHAAT?

So, tea tree oil, or melaleuca oil comes from a small tree that grows in Australia. The oil is made by steaming the leaves of the melaleuca alternifolia. It has been a traditional medicine used by the Aboriginal people of ‘Straya, and they’ve been using it for centuries. If used correctly, it can heal so many health problems and be an easy natural remedy. Today I want to share about this wonder oil.

Skincare

Tea tree oil makes an amazing natural remedy for treating bacterial and fungal skin conditions. Because of it’s anti-inflammatory effects, it can help calm an irritated skin. As for myself, I’ve always had problems with my skin if not it being super dry no matter what I do, it is reacting to random stuff ALL – THE – TIME! I stopped eating food that contains gluten and it helped some, actually it calmed my skin down a lot. Also ever since I excluded gluten out of my diet, I haven’t been feeling super bloated either… Anyway back to what I was saying about TTO. I used to wash my hair with tea tree infused shampoos, never even thought about it being good for my whole body. And only recently I started applying it to my daily skincare routine. I normally add 2-3 drops of tea tree oil to either Jojoba, Argan or Vitamin E oil. And whenever I do, the “normal” redness on my skin disappears!! I’ve also heard it being used to fight acne, which I cannot say much, but I would love to hear more from you if you have been fighting with this and have found tea tree oil as a saving grace in your routine.

My baby, T-Tree O, has shown to fight against many common fungus that cause yeast infections in our body, especially vaginal candidiasis and dermatophytes (common for toenails). Just like in any other case, it is highly recommended and smart to mix it with a carrier oil. Especially if you use it in highly sensitive areas, you want to be extra careful with this. It can cause irritation and redness on skin if not used before diluted with something.

Everyday small things:

Tea tree oil can also be used as a natural deodorant because it fights against the nasty body odors created by the bacteria on our skin that gets in contact with our sweat. I haven’t personally done this yet but there’s a whole lot of recipes online about this. I might add it in the natural deodorant that I use and I’ll let you know how I feel about it. Another cray cray way to use this oil is to use it as mouthwash !! YES YOU READ RIGHT! It helps fight that stinky breath of yours… mmhm.. I’m talking to you. You simply need to add 3 drops of the oil in to a cup of warm water (some also add peppermint essential oil) and do what you would normally do with yo mouthwash.

And if you happen to get a cut or a scrape, this magical liquid will be your bff. Its antiseptic effects help when you do get minor cuts. I normally mix 1-2 drops to a 1/2 teaspoon of honey, and I just massage that on the cut. Because honey is also known to have anti-bacterial effects, these two babies make a real power couple when mixed together. I even use this mix as a base to my homemade face masks too, I feel like my skin is left feeling flawless and glowing every time.

I’ve also noticed that people use it against colds, flu, migraines, sinus infections etc. You can make a mix of tea tree oil and a carrier oil and massage it to your skin. If you have a cough, massage it to your chest and/or your neck. And incase of a migraine or a stuffy nose, it works the best when applied to your forehead.

Hair

Just like with any other part of your body, your hair and scalp will absolutely love you if you treat it with this oil. The same way it can ease acne and other skin infections or fungus, the same way it can help ease the symptoms of dandruff. And not only that, it soothes and improves your scalp’s overall health. And when you take care of your scalp, your hair will be healthy too. It all starts from the roots, baby! The oil works well as a hair mask or as an additional ingredient in your shampoo, but make sure there’s no other active ingredients that might cause irritation. Because as I said, tea tree oil is very strong. That’s why it’s more than acceptable to dilute it with either water or a carrier oil.

That was just the beginning of the never ending list about the goodness of tea tree oil. I do want to remind you to make sure you test it for yourself first or even talk to your doctor before using it. Some medicines might react to this oil, so I do not want to be responsible of anything bad happening to any of you. Also make sure you research the quality of the brand and the product before using. But other than that, this oil makes an amazing, INEXPENSIVE add to your home. We don’t even realize how many times our sicknesses and such could be easily treated with natural ingredients. I could go on and on about how often times doctors don’t even care about our actual health because they’re so ready to put us on a prescription. How many times have doctors given you more holistic ways to treat whatever you’re going through?

I believe we were given doctors and medicine for our good. But I also strongly believe that God purposely created so many different natural ways to treat ourselves. In this day and age it’s just not taught as much. But don’t worry my friend, I’m in the journey of learning more about it and I promise to share all the knowledge with you.

I pray that my readers would be blessed this week, God. And they would have tips for natural self-care, and they would share their tips with me. God help us to see how much You’ve put effort to make sure we have everything we need in You and the nature You created for us. Help us to become wise in how to take care of our environment and that way be a blessing to each other, You and the whole creation. In Jesus Name, AMEN!!
